Lightning Strikes World Trade Center

Lightning repeatedly struck the 1 World Trade Center (the Freedom Tower) in New York City on May 23rd, 2014 as a heavy thunderstorm passed overhead. Photos and videos of this dramatic display were captured by numerous people, including a few amateurs who happened to be in the right place, at just the right time. Check them out below!

Although lightning can be a mesmerizing display of nature, it’s important to remember that lightning can kill you. Always put your safety first. For more information on lightning safety, read our Lightning Safety 101.
