Polar Vortex Wraps U.S. with Frigid Grip

Unmatched since February of 1996, a polar vortex is behind a powerful cold front carrying Arctic temperatures that is rushing into the East Coast today after plummeting temperatures into the negatives throughout the Midwest and eastern Plains.

Wind chills are expected to drop the temperature as low as -55°F Monday night in some areas and the National Weather Service has issued wide-ranging wind chill warnings from Montana to Alabama. You should take steps to minimize your exposure to this danger

Some schools and day care centers have closed their doors as a precaution since many roads have been rendered impassable due to snow and wind. About 3,300 flights nationwide have been canceled Monday according to flightaware.com.
